Regional Compacts

The PCI’s Regional Compacts conceived by the IDH are already implemented in different regions of the world. In Mato Grosso, the regional compacts are aligned with the goals of the State’s Strategy and located in 3 different regions in the state, with the objective of enabling local agreements and partnerships in order to increase the productivity of production chains, improve livelihoods, as well as protect and conserve forests. The PCI Institute is already working with these regions by identifying local governance relationships, standardizing methodologies of indicators of regional goals with the state goals of the PCI, and connecting local investment opportunities to the investment pipeline of the PCI Institute.

PCI Barra do Garças

Barra do Garças is a municipality located in the Center-West Region of Mato Grosso, with an area of 9,078,983 km² and 61,135 inhabitants. The Barra do Garças Regional Compact acts as part of the IDH Regional Compacts program and in line with the PCI strategy. The main productive chains in the region are soybeans and cattle.

GOALS
Among the goals of the Regional Compact that are aligned with the PCI strategy are:

Produce

Promote the integration of small/ medium/large rural producers in the municipality’s priority production chains
Foster land use intensification in livestock and agriculture
Advance in the adoption of crop/livestock integration systems
Promote the production of renewable energies through biomass
Make the municipality a reference in the production and quality of calves

Conserve

Fight against illegal deforestation
Support the implementation of the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) in all municipalities
Implement the environmental regularization program (PRA), with the restoration of degraded areas permanent protection areas and legal reserves
Advance in water and soil conservation techniques
Adopt Best Agricultural Practices (BPA) for rural and family farmers
Foster payment programs for environmental services (PES)
Promote environmental sanitation in the municipality’s rural properties

Include

Increase ATER (Technical Assistance and Rural Extension) services in settlements, small holdings and indigenous lands, with a focus on the production chains for beekeeping, olive growing, dairy farming, pig farming, goats and sheep farming, fruit growing, fish farming (aquaculture and artisanal) as well as organic production
Increase the regularization and environmental adequacy of rural properties in partnership with relevant authorities
Increase operational, strategic, commercial and professional support for rural properties and family farmers

COMMITMENT

In 2019, through the Barra do Garças local government together with PCI, IDH, JBS and private sector class entities, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the objective of establishing cooperation and carrying out the necessary efforts to promote sustainable economic development through of the PCI strategy in the Municipality of Barra do Garças. The term of the agreement is five years and is expected to last until 2024.

Projeto Campos do Araguaia

Coordinated by TNC, Grupo Roncador and supported by the IDH aimed at strengthening the livestock sustainable intensification agenda in the Araguaia Valley. The project was carried out between 2016 and 2019.

PCI Sorriso

Sorriso is a municipality located in the Central Region of Mato Grosso, with a total area of 9,345,755 km² and a population of 92,769 inhabitants. The Regional Compact of Sorriso is part of the Regional IDH Compacts program and in line with the PCI strategy. The main productive chains in the region are soybeans, corn, cotton, forestry and aquaculture.

GOALS
Among the goals of the Regional Compact of Sorriso aligned with the PCI strategy are:

Produce

Increase corn ethanol production and accelerate the use of by-products in regional development
Increase the use of solar energy to 10MWh by 2024
Increase by 150 thousand hectares the area of RTRS certified soy by 2024
Increase the area of planted forests by 50,000 hectares by 2024
Increase pig production by 40% by 2024
Increase aquaculture fish production by 100% by 2024

Conserve

End illegal deforestation by 2024
Qualify 100% of the CAR for validation of SEMA-MT by 2019
Register 100% of rural properties with the Rural Environmental Registry (SIMCAR) by 2019
Recover 100% of APP (permanent protection) areas by 2024
Support the fish production chain in the licensing and regularization process

Include

Increase access to ATER (technical assistance) to 290 family farmers by 2024
Regularize 100% of family farming plots by 2024
Increase milk production by 50% by 2024
Increase honey production by 50% by 2024
Increase fruit production by 100% by 2024
Increase horticulture production by 50% by 2024

COMMITMENT

In 2019, through the local government of Sorriso, together with the PCI and private sector representative organizations, a Memorandum of Understanding, was signed with the objective of establishing cooperation and making the necessary efforts to promote sustainable economic development through the PCI strategy in the Municipality of Sorriso. The term of the agreement is five years and is expected to last until 2024.

PROJECTS

Programa Cultivando Vida Sustentável (growing sustainable lives)

Coordinated by CAT Sorriso whose objective is to promote responsible soy production, promote the restoration and regeneration of degraded areas and offer technical assistance to small farmers. CAT will carry out the project activities. The project aims to reach an area of 150,000 hectares of soybeans, totaling approximately 540,000 tons of grains per year produced responsibly, according to the RTRS guidelines.

PCI Vale do Juruena

Juruena is a municipality located in the North-West Region of Mato Grosso, with an area of 3,190,476 km² and a population of 14,913 inhabitants.
Contriguaçú is a municipality located in the North-West Region of Mato Grosso with an area of 9,123,582 km² and a population of 19,254 inhabitants.
The Vale do Juruena Regional Compact operates in both municipalities as part of the IDH Regional Compacts program and in line with the PCI strategy. The main productive chains in the region are livestock, wood and products from family farming and socio-biodiversity.

Among the goals of the Vale do Juruena Regional Compact aligned with the PCI strategy are::

PROJECTS

Sustainable calf production program

Initiated in 2018 and coordinated by the IDH, Carrefour Foundation, Carrefour Brazil, Acrimat and Natcap, it aims to offer more than 450 livestock properties in the Vale do Juruena and Vale do Araguaia, tools to improve results of the breeding segment in economic, environmental and social aspects.

Programa nosso leite (Our Milk Program)

Coordinated by SEBRAE aims to increase the production, productivity and efficiency of milk production systems, aiming at increasing property income, on a sustainable basis, adopting property management and technification tools. The program is carried out through the training of technical assistance professionals and rural extension for small dairy farmers.
